Save the Children Action Network commends President Obama for prioritizing the needs of children in his State of the Union address. This is the third consecutive year the President has pushed for greater federal investments in early childhood development during the State of the Union. The president proposed tripling the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC), from $1,000 to $3,000 per child, and expanding the credit to make it available to more of America’s middle class. This bold initiative would benefit 5.1 million families and increase access to child care for 3.5 million children under the age of five. “Every child deserves a strong start to life, and that includes access to high-quality child care for kids from all economic backgrounds,” said Mark Shriver, president of Save the Children Action Network. “Save the Children Action Network applauds President Obama for reinforcing his administration’s commitment to investing in kids by calling for an expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit. The President was exactly right when he said quality child care is a national economic priority and expanding access to more kids is a critical step toward securing a better future for all American children.”
