Bollywood taking baby steps towards philanthropy

In July, Warren Buffett, the chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway, donated about $2.2 billion (around Rs.14,674 crore) of stock in his annual gift to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, according to Bloomberg. Through last year, he had donated more than $17 billion of stock to the foundation.


In the same month, Forbes released the 2016 Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy list that included five Indians: Vineet and Anupama Nayar, founders of the Sampark Foundation; Adar Poonawalla, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Serum Institute of India; Bain India CEO Amit Chandra and his wife Archana Chandra, CEO of the Jai Vakeel Foundation.
